Strengthening Victoria’s Multicultural Youth

11 June 2017

Culturally diverse Victorians aged 16 to 25 are invited to become a member of the Multicultural Youth Network (MYN) and have their views heard on how to make Victoria a stronger, more cohesive state.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Robin Scott and Minister for Youth Affairs Jenny Mikakos today announced the opening of expressions of interest from young Victorians who want to contribute to strengthening our culturally diverse communities.

The MYN is a youth network that will:

  • provide advice to government on issues affecting young Victorians from diverse backgrounds
  • participate in capacity building activities and develop skills and capabilities as young leaders
  • engage with communities and build intercultural relationships

The MYN aims to represent the diversity of Victoria’s youth and will be chaired by the VMC Youth Commissioner, with additional support from the Minister for Youth Affairs.

While formal meetings of the MYN will take place in the Melbourne CBD, candidates from throughout rural and regional Victoria are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Andrews Labor Government’s Youth Policy: Building Stronger Youth Engagement in Victoria outlines a clear focus on providing avenues for enhancing youth participation and engaging with young people from all walks of life. The MYN is an important way of achieving that.

Up to 20 young people will be selected and recruitment closes on Monday 3 July 2017 at 5pm. To apply and for more information, visit www.multicultural.vic.gov.au/projects-and-initiatives/multicultural-youth-networkExternal Link
