Streetscapes In Hepburn Shire Upgraded And Reimagined

17 July 2017

The towns of Creswick and Clunes in Hepburn Shire are benefiting from streetscape projects that have revitalised important community spaces used for events, markets, sport, and recreation by locals and visitors.

Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria Danielle Green today joined community members in Clunes to celebrate the completion of both projects, which were delivered with support from the Andrews Labor Government.

The Creswick streetscape project transformed the former site of the local bowls club, which was forced to relocate after flooding events in 2010-11.

The vacant bowls club land in the centre of town has been repurposed and is now a vibrant public space with a half-court basketball court, table tennis tables, skate park and splash park.

The project also installed park furniture, interpretive signage, additional car parking, upgraded footpaths, and improved pedestrian access between the Creswick Visitor Information Centre to the new community area.

The Clunes streetscape project has upgraded Collins Place, improved the forecourt to the Clunes Town Hall, and enhanced access to the Warehouse – Clunes, which is the Clunes civic centre incorporating a museum, library and council services.

The project has resolved changes in ground levels with tiered landscaping, upgraded street furniture, resolved drainage issues, provided new paths, and created a crossing point to the Clunes Town Hall.

The streetscape improvements will benefit monthly Clunes Farmers’ Markets and the popular Clunes Booktown Festival, which attracts 18,000 visitors to Clunes each year.
