Statement On Ron Iddles’ Retirement

14 October 2016

The Andrews Labor Government congratulates Police Association Secretary and veteran former detective Ron Iddles on his decorated 40-year policing career.

To give as much as he has to the uniform is a testament to his character.

He’s regarded as one of the country’s most experienced and respected homicide detectives, leading hundreds of investigations over his career with integrity and determination.

After stepping away from investigating serious crimes in the community, Ron Iddles chose to dedicate himself to the force in other ways.

He has been instrumental in driving change for Victoria Police – from identifying resourcing issues to highlighting police mental health and the pressures on personnel across the organisation.

He has put on the public agenda the toll that policing can take on police personnel and their families.

Since taking on his role as Police Association Secretary, Ron Iddles has been fierce in his pursuit of cultural change within Victoria Police, and he’s helped shape the future of the Police Association.

We wish Ron and his family all the best for the future and look forward to working with the Association’s new Secretary in 2017.
