Statement Regarding The Closure Of Sage Institute

15 March 2017

The Andrews Labor Government will support all Victorian Government-funded students affected by the closure of Sage Institute in Victoria.

This is an incredibly difficult time for students and we will help them complete their training by transitioning them to a TAFE or another training provider contracted by the Department of Education and Training.

We will also be assisting secondary school students who were undertaking Vocational Education and Training programs with Sage, to ensure they can continue with another training provider as quickly as possible.

It’s incumbent on Sage to issue students with a statement of attainment promptly.

As the majority of students at Sage in Victoria are funded by the Commonwealth Government’s VET FEE HELP/VET Student Loans program, it’s time for the Turnbull Government to make it clear they will also support students impacted by this closure.

The assistance offered by the Australian Council for Private Education and Training (ACPET) via a Tuition Assurance Scheme is welcome and necessary. Our TAFEs also stand ready to assist all students.

Any Sage student who wants to discuss their training options can call the TAFE and Training Line on 131 823 or email tafe.courseline@edumail.vic.gov.au for support.

The Department has written to all Victorian Government-funded students explaining their options for further training.
