Statement On The Passing Of Steve Hutchins

24 November 2017

It is with great sadness we confirm the passing of Steve Hutchins, former Labor Senator and husband to Minister Natalie Hutchins.

During his time in our nation's Parliament, Steve was fearless in his commitment to a fairer, more decent Australia.

Through his work on a number of Senate inquiries, Steve pursued landmark change on poverty and long overdue recognition of Australia's child migrants.

A stalwart of our movement, Steve also served as New South Wales Party President and as Labor's National Vice President.

Even after his time in Parliament had come to a close, Steve continued in his fight for fairness, serving as President for St Vincent de Paul's Broadmeadows chapter.

While others will have much to say about Steve's many contributions, we remember him as a dedicated husband, a devoted father and a generous friend.

We are so much poorer for his passing.

We extend our sincerest condolences to Natalie, Lauren, Julia, Michael, Georgia, Madeleine, Xavier, their families and all who love him.
