This morning I met with the Chair of the Adult Parole Board, former Justice Bill Gillard QC, where he announced his intention to retire from his position, effective Friday, 8 May 2015.
This decision has now been confirmed in writing by Mr Gillard.
Mr Gillard has served this state as a senior member of the legal profession, a respected judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria and as the head of the Adult Parole Board.
However, he has recently made what I consider to be an error of judgment that makes it appropriate that I accept his decision to retire.
Mr Gillard will stay on until 8 May to support the transition to Deputy Chair, Judge Frank Shelton, who will assume the role of Chair until a permanent replacement is found.
