Statement On The Death Of An RMIT Trainee Pilot

08 September 2015

The thoughts and prayers of the Victorian Government are with the family of an RMIT student who died while on a solo training flight yesterday.

This morning I spoke with RMIT Vice Chancellor Martin Bean and offered him my full support at this difficult time.

I have asked the Department of Education and Training to work with RMIT to make sure the students and staff at its Point Cook facility are looked after.

It is tragic to lose anyone but it is all the more heartbreaking when someone is taken so young and under such tragic circumstances.

I ask that the media respect the privacy of RMIT staff and students and the family of the young student at this difficult time.
