More than 150 WorkSafe employees are now working in Geelong, signalling the end of phase one of WorkSafe’s two-stage move from its current headquarters in Melbourne.
Already, WorkSafe’s relocation has been a boon for the region, with more than 40 WorkSafe staff having recently bought houses.
Minister for Finance Robin Scott today visited staff to hear about their move while getting a progress report on construction of WorkSafe’s $120 million headquarters at 1 Malop St.
Concrete was just poured for level two of the building, as well as three car parking levels.
Until the big move in mid-2018, employees are working out of the TAC building at 60 Brougham St and a refurbished office in Malop St.
The new HQ is on target to be completed in just over 12 months.
The 14-storey head office will eventually house more than 700 WorkSafe workers and contractors above the historic Dalgety and Co building and achieve a six-star green rating.
WorkSafe’s move to Geelong – announced in 2015 – is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s push to bring new jobs and industries to the region.
A number of locals have also joined the WorkSafe team and more are expected to join as further positions become available.
