11 October 2022

Tickets to the Australian Open go on sale today, with the Andrews Labor Government backed event set to welcome thousands of interstate and overseas visitors to Victoria, boosting local businesses and jobs.

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos today joined Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley at Melbourne Park to make the announcement, with huge demand expected for tickets as fans from across the world again join the first Grand Slam of the year.

Featuring family-friendly pricing and early bird booking discounts, next year’s tournament will offer even more opportunities for Victorians to join in the courtside action, watching the world’s best players as they compete for the major title.

Following the completion of the Labor Government’s near $1 billion Melbourne Park Redevelopment, the precinct is poised to welcome capacity crowds when the tournament descends on Melbourne from 16 to 29 January 2023.

Delivering a significant contribution to the Victorian economy, the precinct attracts more than 2.5 million people across 400 events every year, which include the Australian Open.

The Australian Open alone delivered a combined economic benefit of $405.3 million during 2021 and 2022, while over the past 10 years the event has contributed $2.71 billion to the Victorian economy.

Trophies from the Australian Open have commenced a grand tour, bringing the action to fans in regional Victoria with the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup and Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup visiting more than 20 locations across the state.

The Labor Government has secured the Australian Open for a further 7 years, ensuring the renowned international event continues to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to Victoria until 2046.
