Securing Ballarat’s Manufacturing Future

09 February 2018

Laminex, Australia’s leading producer of decorative surfaces like kitchen bench tops, will invest $3 million to maintain and grow its manufacturing presence in Ballarat with support from the Andrews Labor Government.

Visiting the company’s existing facility in Wendouree today, Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford met with representatives from Laminex to announce the Labor Government’s support from the Regional Jobs Fund.

The Ballarat manufacturing facility is one of four nationwide and employs more than 130 people. The new investment will help secure the future of Laminex in Ballarat, creating seven additional jobs and boosting the company’s competitiveness with new plant and equipment.

The project will allow Laminex to use advanced reactive hot melt technology that will expand the range of high end products manufactured in Ballarat.

The project will generate around $1 million in local contracts and will also create construction and supply chain jobs, as well as replacing imports.

Victoria is the nation’s home of manufacturing – a $26 billion industry that supports jobs, exports and economic growth. The sector employs more than 283,000 Victorians across 13,000 businesses.

Ballarat businesses account for a third of total manufacturing output in regional Victoria – or $3.3 billion annually.

Right across the state, the Labor Government is investing in initiatives that make regional Victoria a better place to live, work and do business.
