Safety Upgrade Underway At Fyansford Roundabout

16 August 2018

Crossing a notorious intersection at Fyansford will soon be a lot safer for drivers thanks to the construction of a new roundabout.

Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan today joined Member for Geelong Christine Couzens to tour the worksite at the intersection of Hyland Street, Deviation Road, Atkins Street and the Hamilton Highway.

The new, four-leg roundabout is taking shape with works expected to be completed next month.

Previously, the intersection had a complex design which made it difficult for vehicles to cross safely.

The new roundabout will ensure that drivers slow down and are able to select an appropriate gap to cross the intersection, improving overall safety for all road users.

Works will also include the installation of pedestrian crossings, dedicated bike lanes, new kerb and drainage and the relocation of high voltage powerlines.

The Andrews Labor Government has invested $2.5 million for the new roundabout through the Transport Accident Commission’s (TAC) Safe System Roads Infrastructure Program.

ICD Property Pty Ltd, the developer behind the $300 million GenFyansford housing development, has also contributed $1.2 million towards the project.
