Safety Boost For Daylesford Intersection

17 May 2016

The Andrews Labor Government is making Daylesford safer and less congested with a new roundabout at the intersection of Midland Highway, Daylesford-Trentham Road and East Street.

Treasurer Tim Pallas and the Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas announced the $1.3 million upgrade in Daylesford, which will help to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes by slowing traffic approaching the intersection.

The roundabout will simplify the road layout and ensure safe and reliable travel for the 2,600 vehicles that use the road every day. It will also cater for increasing tourist traffic as the region’s popularity continues to grow.

Visibility will also be improved with the installation of upgraded street lighting, increasing safety for all road users.

The upgrade will address a history of crashes that all involve vehicles colliding while travelling through the intersection.

In the five year period to December 2015, there have been five crashes, resulting in ten low-level injuries. All of these crashes involved vehicles crashing into each other as they travelled through the intersection.

Planning works will begin this year, with the project expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
