A new $7.5 million roundabout in Melbourne’s east will improve safety at the intersection of Pound Road and Shrives Road in Hampton Park.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan said the new roundabout will help ease congestion and make journeys safer for drivers who have difficulty turning safely at the intersection.
There has been a history of crashes at this intersection, with four over the past five years. Two people involved in these accidents were seriously injured.
The new two-lane roundabout at the intersection of Pound Road and Shrives Road in Hampton Park is part of a project that has included improved street lighting, new footpaths and service relocations to enable road widening.
The Andrews Labor Government’s upgrade has received strong support from locals, with approximately 30,000 vehicles using this section of Pound Road every day.
Minor site works, including landscaping and road surfacing, will continue into early 2019.
This project has been funded by the Towards Zero Action Plan as part of the Transport Accident Commission and delivered by VicRoads.
