A 2012 report reveals the former Liberal Government’s support for a six kilometre elevated rail line, up to six stories-high, through the eastern suburbs.
Despite campaigning against the Andrews Labor Government’s plans to remove nine dangerous and congested level crossings on the Cranbourne Pakenham Line, the Liberal Party had plans of their own for elevated rail.
The Rowville Rail Study, released and endorsed by the former Government, shows a 5.8 kilometre elevated rail line was being considered for the proposed Rowville Rail Line.
In comparison, the longest section of elevated rail under Labor’s plan is 3.6 kilometres.
On top of being longer, the elevated Rowville line would have been higher – up to 17 metres from ground level to track.
