Richmond High School Opens Its Doors To Students

30 January 2018

Students in Melbourne’s inner east now have access to a world class education, with the official opening of the new Richmond High School.

Premier Daniel Andrews, Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Richmond Richard Wynne, today opened the $43 million school, which will cater for 650 Year 7-12 students.

The new Richmond High School is located over two sites – the Griffith Street Campus and the Gleadell Street Campus.

The school is opening in two stages starting with the Gleadell Street Campus open from today. It includes general purpose teaching spaces, four competition-standard netball courts (one indoor), as well as new showers and toilets, a canteen and administration area.

The Griffiths Street Campus will open in Term 1, 2019 and will cater for the second cohort of Year 7 students and students moving into Year 8.

The Griffiths Street Campus will have four levels comprising of learning and staff facilities, as well as outdoor spaces for learning, gathering and play.

The Liberal Party shut this school and when they were last in Government ripped billions of dollars out of the education system. They should never be given the chance to do that again.

The Andrews Labor Government is building the Education State so that every student can access a great local school and has invested $2.5 billion to improve classrooms, upgrade facilities and build new schools across the state.

This school building boom has delivered more than 1,200 school upgrades and 56 new school projects across the state, supporting almost 5,000 local construction jobs.
