The Andrews Labor Government is backing a major revitalisation of Stawell’s Central Business District.
Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford today announced a $550,000 Labor Government grant towards the project, which will boost economic activity and business opportunities by increasing accessibility and attracting more visitors to Stawell.
The CBD revitalisation project will open opportunities in Stawell for private and commercial investments, and encourage existing businesses to expand, grow and stay in Stawell.
The project will improve pedestrian accessibility, safety and the visitor experience – reinvigorating the retail heart of Stawell and complementing the Labor Government’s investment in the Grampians Peaks Trail.
The revitalisation will include construction of new on-street dining and retail zones, footpaths and pedestrian crossings to improve access to businesses in Bayliss Street, as well as street plantings and wayfinding signage.
On Main Street between Patrick Street and Victoria Place the existing concrete road will be removed an reconstructed, and the concrete pavement will be ripped up and replaced by a brick pavement to improve on street dining and retail capacity outside shop fronts.
New pedestrian crossings will also be built between Patrick Street and Victoria Place, drainage pits will be improved, and new street plantings, seating areas and wayfinding signage will be installed.
On the lower end of Main Street, between St George and Wimmera Streets, the road will be resealed and lanes narrowed – slowing of traffic and boost safety. Footpaths will be widened to improve on street dining and retail, four new car parking spaces will be created and new landscaping will be carried out.
The total project value is $1.35 million, with $800,000 provided through the Australian Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund.
