Regional Leaders to Drive Regional Jobs and Growth

06 March 2015

Regional leaders from across the state will identify priorities to drive jobs, investment and growth in regional Victoria, as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s independent review of regional development.

Outlining the terms of reference, Minister for Regional Development, Jaala Pulford, said the review will identify the most effective model of regional service delivery, as well as best practice, evidence-based policy directions to drive jobs and growth in regional Victoria.

Chaired by former Victorian Premier and Regional Development Minister, John Brumby, and supported by a group of leaders from regional Victoria, the board will deliver its final report by mid-May.

The board will consult widely with regional stakeholders, clients and communities to identify key priorities for each region and the major economic, social and demographic issues facing regional Victoria.

Key drivers of regional growth will also be examined, including transport, infrastructure and planning, innovation and industry policy, trade and investment facilitation, and education and training.

The External Advisory Board will meet at least four times over the course of the review, with up to two meetings held in regional Victoria.
