Recruitment Campaign To Put More Police On The Street

28 January 2017

One of the biggest recruitment campaigns in Victorian history kicks off today to support the Andrews Labor Government’s massive $2 billion boost to police numbers and resources.

Minister for Police Lisa Neville joined Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton today to launch the new recruitment drive to attract the best and brightest to join the force.

Over the next three months, the Be a Force for Good campaign will reach millions of Victorians across television, radio, print, social and online media, as police continue to bolster their ranks and build a diverse workforce that represents the community it serves.

The campaign looks at the everyday work Victoria Police members do and highlights the rewarding aspects of the job that makes a police career worthwhile.

We are recruiting 3135 new police officers over the next 5 years on top of the numbers we recruit to fill vacancies and retirements.

This year represents 100 years of women in policing, with the campaign also encouraging women to consider Victoria Police as a career.

We’re delivering new equipment, new laws and new powers to ensure Victoria Police have the resources they need to keep our state safe.

There are currently more than 13,400 police and 1300 PSOs deployed across Victoria to support and protect the community.

Police have a rigorous selection and training process to ensure they select the right people, and to ensure recruits have the training and confidence to make a difference.

The Labor Government is also funding a new police training facility, new and upgraded police stations, high-tech Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology for all highway patrol cars, an expanded air wing, and mobile technology.
