The Andrews Labor Government is delivering for border communities with recruitment now underway for the appointment of the state’s first Cross-Border Commissioner.
The Mallee Regional Partnership has championed the establishment of the role to further the interests of businesses, organisations and individuals who live, work and operate in Victoria’s border communities.
The Victorian Budget 2018/19 provided $760,000 to establish the Cross-Border Commissioner to address issues that impact on businesses, organisations and residents who live, work and operate across state borders.
The Cross-Border Commissioner role will focus on engaging with stakeholders, negotiating agreements between government agencies, and advocating on behalf of border communities and businesses.
The Commissioner will be responsible for promoting the interests of Victorian border communities, resolving issues, and developing common approaches with neighbouring states.
The regionally-based Commissioner will work to remove barriers and find solutions to maximise economic growth and productivity.
The Labor Government is now seeking applications from people with significant experience in developing and implementing programs with business and community impact.
