Record Number Of Victorians Get Active For April

15 May 2017

More than 112,000 Victorians of all ages and abilities leapt into action and improved their health as part of this year’s Premier’s Active April.

Minster for Sport John Eren today congratulated the record number of Victorians who committed to 30 minutes of exercise every day last month.

For the first time this year, participants took advantage of a new smartphone app to track their daily activity and compare their stats with their mates.

1,468 Victorian schools teams and 819 Victorian workplace teams took the pledge – exercising daily by walking to school, riding to work, or visiting the gym during their lunch breaks.

The most active local government areas were Casey, Boroondara, Monash, Ballarat, Brimbank and Darebin.

When it comes to schools, the best performers were Springside P-9 College in Caroline Springs, Heidelberg Primary School, Lynbrook Primary School, Emerson School in Dandenong, and Mount St Joseph Girls College in Altona North.

Workplaces with the most registered employees were Latrobe Regional Hospital, Bass Coast Shire Council, the Victorian Commission for Liquor and Gambling, RACV and Mercedes-Benz Australia.

Women once again well and truly outran their male counterparts, making up nearly 60 per cent of participants.

The results match recent research showing Victorian women are outperforming men when it comes to keeping active. It reveals 61 per cent of women are exercising at least three times a week, compared to 57 per cent of men.
