Community groups and local residents of Stawell can now enjoy a new, multi-purpose facility at the same time as celebrating their local history.
Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria, Danielle Green officially opened the upgraded precinct, which was completed by Northern Grampians Shire with support from the Victorian Government
The project has restored Stawell’s former Court House, Shire Hall and linked the different features of the precinct together to maximise the benefits to the community.
The new precinct provides the community with bigger and better amenities including a new gallery space, meeting and conference area, storage areas, and function space.
The historically significant buildings are now connected and more than double their former size, which has opened up the use of the space to a variety of new users and activities.
The project has enabled the Stawell Historical Society to operate a document library and research facility, which includes climate controlled document storage and display facilities for historical records. The Stawell Lions Club now has access to a dedicated committee room within the community precinct.
By providing an accessible meeting place for local residents, the Pleasant Creek Historical Precinct encourages broader community connections and allows existing groups to meet each other and access activities and services in their local area.
