Planning For A Healthier Future In Footscray

09 April 2016

Footscray Hospital will receive a much needed renovation with funding for urgent works to fix key sections of the hospital and to undertake important planning work provided in the 2016-17 Victorian Budget.

Melbourne’s West is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia and it’s vital we have the right health care services in place to best meet demand and deliver the high quality care the community need and deserve.

With a substantial number of Footscray Hospital buildings dating back to the 1950s, many of the wards and facilities do not meet modern standards and community and patient expectations.

This $17 million cash injection will make sure those areas of the Hospital that need the most work will get the urgent fix they require to continue to provide safe and high quality care to patients.

Important planning work for the future of Footscray Hospital will also be undertaken as part of this $17 million funding boost.

This will focus on making sure we have the right services and infrastructure in place in Melbourne’s West so we can best meet the demands of our rapidly growing community.

A key priority of the renovation will be the South Block wards where significant work is required to bring the wards up to standard.

South Block’s three wards, which include 77 beds, an inpatient dialysis imaging unit and administration and kitchen facilities for staff will get an urgent upgrade, meaning patients staying overnight can rest and recuperate in safe and modern facilities.

The Government will continue to work with Western Health to support Footscray Hospital to meet the needs of the local community and provide high quality care and treatment.
