Planned Burning Underway To Protect Lives, Property And The Environment

16 March 2015

The Andrews Labor Government has today launched an information campaign for upcoming planned burning operations, which will reduce bushfire risk for communities and the environment across Victoria.

The campaign will commence on Sunday across TV, print and online media. It will outline how planned burns are conducted by expert fire crews from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), along with Parks Victoria and the CFA, to help reduce the risk of bushfire across our State.

Planned burns are carefully planned and managed by experienced crews, and only ever go ahead when the weather forecast and conditions are safe.

The campaign will help inform Victorians about where and when planned burn operations are carried out and help people prepare.

Autumn brings favourable conditions for planned burning, with crews taking advantage of the weather to conduct a large amount of operations across the State over the next month. Crews will continuing planned burning through to May or June, weather permitting, to prepare for next summer.
