Pipeline Of Major Projects To Boost Jobs And Industry

28 February 2016

A Sunshine West company has secured a contract to supply steel products for the Andrews Labor Government’s 15 new schools project.

Minister for Industry Lily D’Ambrosio visited Stilcon Holdings today to congratulate the company on winning the contract, which will create 8 new jobs and secure an existing 120 jobs.

Ninety per cent of content for the 15 new schools project will be provided by local jobs and suppliers under the Labor Government’s Victorian Industry Participation Policy (VIPP).

Ms D’Ambrosio also announced the release of the VIPP Strategic Project Pipeline. This delivers on the Government’s commitment to provide local companies with advance notice of public procurement opportunities.

The VIPP Strategic Project Pipeline provides information on current and upcoming VIPP Strategic Projects, which includes major infrastructure projects such as level crossing removals, new schools and hospitals.

Under the Victorian Industry Participation Policy, projects worth $50 million or more are declared strategic projects and have a minimum local content requirement set to help boost industry and jobs.

After just one year in office, the Labor Government has deemed 16 projects strategic and set strong local content requirements for each of them – compared to the former Coalition Government who only declared eight strategic projects during its entire four years in office.

The Victorian Industry Participation Policy has generated around $1.12 billion worth of local industry orders, 981 new jobs and 197 new apprenticeships in the 2014-15 financial year.

An existing 4,000 Victorian jobs, apprenticeships and traineeships were also saved through these projects.

The VIPP Strategic Project Pipeline is available online at www.ecodev.vic.gov.au/vippExternal Link .
