Parents And Patients Log On At Royal Children’s Hospital

22 August 2016

A ground breaking, Australian-first website and app is now giving parents of sick children at the Royal Children’s HospitalExternal Link quick and secure access to their child’s medical records.

Minster for Health, Jill Hennessy, today launched the My RCH Portal which forms part of the hospital’s world-class new electronic medical records system.

As part of a $48 million project, a revolutionary new electronic medical record system was installed at the hospital. This was the first installation of this type of software in Australia.

The system includes an innovative website and app which allows parents and legal guardians of young patients to easily and conveniently access their medical records anytime, anywhere, while also protecting patient privacy.

After months of testing, the new website and app will open to all Royal Children’s Hospital patients and their families today. More than 1300 people have already registered to access the portal.

On the website or app parents can add or update health information, manage hospital appointments, see medications prescribed and instructions for taking them, view test and imaging results and read doctor notes.

For parents and patients, this means better and quicker access to information on their child’s medical history, which can lead to better health outcomes.

It also allows the child’s GPs to seamlessly coordinate treatment alongside with the hospital’s care.

The Andrews Labor Government’s Victorian Budget 2016/17 delivered an extra $2.45 billion for health, so hospitals can admit more patients, reduce waiting times, upgrade buildings and infrastructure and keep Victorians healthy.

As part of this investment, planning and development of a Parkville Precinct Electronic Medical Record to service the Royal Melbourne and Peter MacCallum hospitals will be supported with an initial $5 million.
