Not-For-Profit Providers To Deliver Disability Services

27 August 2018

Five not-for-profit providers will deliver disability accommodation and respite services currently operated by the Victorian Government, as part of the transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing Martin Foley joined Special Minister of State Gavin Jennings to announce the transfer of services, which will begin in February next year.

Transferring these services to the not-for-profit sector will help deliver on the promise of the NDIS – to give people with disability greater choice and control over the services and support they receive.

The five not-for-profit agencies – House with No Steps, Life Without Barriers, Melba Support Services, Possability and Scope – were chosen following a rigorous process, undertaken in partnership with people with disability and their families, the workforce and the disability sector.

All providers demonstrated innovative approaches to service delivery, have proven track records in delivering high quality support and have existing links with the community.

Staff will transition to the new providers by 2021, but remain in their current roles, ensuring people with disability continue to receive care from the people they know and trust.

The workforce will transfer on fair terms and conditions, recognising their value and expertise. This is in line with the eight-year package of protections agreed with the Health and Community Services Union.

The transfer of services is strengthened by the $26 millio.n investment in the disability workforce, and the implementation of the registration and accreditation scheme, which was passed in Parliament last week, to support the growth of a quality workforce.

The Government will closely monitor all new providers as part of a Performance and Monitoring Regime to ensure they meet all contractual obligations and deliver the highest standards of quality, safety and workforce development.
