Northern Health Hub Chosen For Barwon Health-North

09 June 2015

The new $33 million Barwon Health-North facility will be built in Norlane as part of Geelong’s new Northern Arts, Recreation and Community Health and Wellbeing Hub.

Barwon Health-North will provide a range of community-based health care services, and will include medical imaging services including x-ray facilities, a CT scanner, a pathology centre, a pharmacy, and consulting suites.

It will also include an urgent care centre, offering non-emergency patients with an alternative to a hospital emergency department, and will provide same-day medical services such as renal dialysis.

This state-of-the-art facility will be built facing the Princess Highway, which will mean easy road, public transport and pedestrian access for the growing community in Norlane and surrounding suburbs.

Construction is expected to start in the second half of 2016, and due to be completed in 2017.

The decision to locate Barwon Health-North at this iconic site, which is currently home to Waterworld Leisure Centre, Corio Library and Centenary Hall, follows extensive community and user group community consultation and masterplanning.

The Andrews Labor Government, Department of Health and Human Services and City of Greater Geelong have worked together to finalise the location of this new facility, which will ensure Geelong North families can access the health care they need closer to home.
