No Monkeying Around With A Summer Bonanza At Our Zoos

23 January 2016

There’s something for everyone at Victoria’s zoos this summer, with families encouraged to get out there and enjoy fantastic exhibitions that will entertain, educate and inspire.

Visiting Werribee Open Range Zoo today, Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water, Lisa Neville highlighted the exhibitions at Melbourne Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary and Werribee this summer – adding that on public holidays, like Australia Day, entry is free for kids.

At Werribee, running every Saturday night during summer, the Rhythm of Africa will captivate audiences with live music, African-inspired food, dancing, drumming and kids’ activities to make it a truly family experience.

Ms Neville also visited three of the newest additions to Werribee Open Range Zoo, meeting three month-old Lion cubs Kubwa, Kashka and Kito.

The trio have been successfully introduced to the rest of the pride, spending the day out with mum Nilo, auntie Niribi and father Johari.

Melbourne Zoo’s Twilight concert series is back for 2016 and will run from 29 January to 12 March. With five shows already sold out this year promises to be bigger than ever with thousands of Victorians flocking to enjoy great bands and wildlife.

Healesville Sanctuary continues to offer a great chance for visitors to get up close to Australia’s native wildlife and will be hosting special events in the lead-up to Australia Day including a special high flying trapeze for thrill-seekers.

This Australia Day children under the age of 16 receive free entry to Werribee Open Range Zoo, Melbourne Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary on Victorian Government school holidays, weekends and public holidays, meaning there has never been a better time to visit the zoo.
