Next Steps For Shepparton’s Homeless Young People

31 January 2016

Shepparton’s Education First Youth Foyer has moved a step closer with the appointment of Berry Street Victoria and Rural Housing Network Limited as service providers. They will work in partnership with GOTAFE to deliver this new service.

Youth foyers focus on education and skills development while providing a safe environment and personal support for young people who are studying or training.

The foyer will provide safe accommodation for up to 40 young people aged 16-24 at a time and engage students in education, employment and training. Youth foyers have already proven successful in several sites across the State.

The foyer is expected to be ready for operation later this year, with community information sessions also being planned.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing Martin Foley

“Youth foyers are an important part of the Andrews Labor Government’s work to make a difference in the lives of young people who are dealing with housing issues by helping them gain education, training and employment.”

“These foyers turn around the lives of young people who don’t have family support, providing a stable home through the years of training or education they need to set up independent, fulfilling adult lives.”
