Next Steps Forward For Grampians Rehab Facility

29 August 2017

Windana Drug and Alcohol Recovery has been named as the service provider for the Andrews Labor Government’s new Grampians alcohol and other drug residential rehabilitation facility.

The new facility will offer 20 rehabilitation beds to give people the support they need to help end their drug addiction and rebuild their lives.

Windana has 30 years’ experience providing residential rehabilitation services that embrace a Therapeutic Community treatment model, offering people choices to take their lives in new directions.

The Grampians region is severely affected by alcohol and other drugs, with high levels of misuse among young adults and rising rates of drug-related offences and ambulance attendances, particularly in Ballarat and Horsham.

Currently, people who need alcohol and other drug residential rehabilitation must travel to Bendigo or Melbourne to access treatment.

New residential drug rehabilitation services like the Grampians facility will be built in Gippsland, Hume and Barwon regions.

Once all facilities are fully operational, the Labor Government will have increased the number of Victorians accessing state funded rehabilitation services by 68 per cent.

These initiatives are part of the Ice Action Plan, which addresses the use of ice and other harmful drugs across Victoria. To date, the Labor Government has committed funding for 112 new residential rehabilitation beds and given an extra 500 Victorians each year with access to new therapeutic day rehabilitation services.

On top of expanding treatment services, the Ice Action Plan is providing more support for families, protecting frontline workers and giving extra powers to police to close down manufacturers and make our community safer.

A community information session will be held on 11 September.
