New WorkSafe Victoria Chair Appointed

Minister for Finance, Robin Scott today announced the appointment of Mr Paul Barker as the new Chair of WorkSafe Victoria.

Mr Barker’s significant experience in international business, management and governance will help strengthen the WorkSafe board.

Having previously served on the WorkSafe Board between 2001 and 2012, including as Deputy Chairman between 2005 and 2012, Mr Barker brings a thorough understanding and appreciation of the crucial role WorkSafe plays in Victorian workplaces.

Mr Barker has also served on the board of the TAC, and was the Chairman during the TAC’s successful relocation of its head office to Geelong, experience that will help guide WorkSafe’s relocation to Geelong.

Mr Barker has extensive experience in accounting and financial services both in Australia and overseas. Formerly Chief Executive of Audit Victoria, he also held senior group executive positions with Standard Chartered Bank in Hong Kong, Singapore and London.

Mr Barker is currently the Chairman of Mirvac Funds Management Ltd and Mirvac REIT Management Ltd, and a Director of Cricket Victoria. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a member of the Governance Institute of Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

The Victorian Government also thanks Mr John Walter for his service as Acting Chair of WorkSafe over the past six months.
