New Supreme Court Judge Appointed

The Andrews Labor Government today announced the appointment of leading commercial barrister Matthew Connock QC as a Judge of the Supreme Court.

Mr Connock has 25 years’ experience as a barrister specialising in banking, finance, insolvency, competition, insurance, property, professional negligence and media rights law.

Mr Connock has regularly appeared at Royal Commissions and before the High Court and the Supreme Courts of Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland.

Mr Connock began his legal career at Mallesons Stephen Jacques in 1987 and became a barrister in 1993. He was appointed Senior Counsel in 2006. Mr Connock has a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Monash University, and a Master of Laws from Melbourne University.

He is also a Senior Fellow at Melbourne University Law School and President of the Victorian Commercial Bar Association.

Mr Connock’s appointment replaces a vacancy created by Justice James Judd who retired on 31 March 2018.
