New Playground For Pakenham’s Growing Community

01 September 2017

Kids in Pakenham will soon have one of the state’s largest all-abilities playgrounds, thanks to funding from the Andrews Labor Government.

Premier Daniel Andrews and Member for Eastern Victoria Daniel Mulino visited Pakenham today to inspect progress on the Deep Creek Reserve upgrade.

The project will redevelop the existing regional reserve and give locals more open space and recreational facilities including a wetland, playground and nursery.

The ‘all-abilities’ playground will be the largest in Cardinia Shire and have a series of ramps and structures to cater to different mobility levels and play spaces with visual, fragrant and tactile learning displays.

As part of the project there will also be a community and education centre. This will include training rooms and a 200 seat capacity conference centre for community use, with commercial kitchen and cafe.

The Deep Creek Reserve upgrade project will be completed in 2018.

The project is funded through a $2.825 million grant from the Labor Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, with Cardinia Shire Council contributing $7.5 million.

The Growing Suburbs Fund is a $150 million investment over four years in critical local infrastructure for communities in Melbourne's diverse and fast-growing outer suburbs.

The Fund is supporting local infrastructure projects such as family and community centres, town centre upgrades, open space and amenity improvements that boost local jobs and make our growing suburbs great places to live.
