New Non-Stop Flights To Vancouver To Take Off Next Year

01 September 2017

The sky’s the limit for Victoria with Air Canada set to commence direct flights between Melbourne and Vancouver from June next year.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren welcomed the announcement that Air Canada will run three non-stop services a week, adding over 46,000 seats every year to Canada.

Air Canada joins an already impressive raft of international carriers that will be launching new direct services from Melbourne in the coming months.

The new service will open up Victoria to the lucrative North American market, with no other airline currently operating this route.

Improving connection to the USA via Vancouver will also pave the way for further business opportunities with both countries.

Last year, 260,000 Canadian and USA tourists visited Victoria, spending $406 million at our hotels, bars, cafes and shops.

That’s why the Andrews Labor Government is working to grow these numbers by attracting even more direct flights like the service announced today.

Air Canada joins Japan Airlines, LATAM and SriLankan Airlines in commencing services to Melbourne in the next 12 months, bringing the number of international airlines flying in and out of Melbourne Airport to 33.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren

“We’re thrilled to land Melbourne’s first non-stop service to Vancouver, giving travellers greater choice and flexibility.”

“This new direct service to Canada will strengthen our wonderful relationship with North America – and that can only mean great things for the Victorian economy.”

With more airlines choosing to fly in and out of Melbourne, it shows that Victoria is a top destination not only for visitors but also our international business and trading partners.”
