Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today joined Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas and representatives from Macedon Ranges Shire Council as works officially started on the Macedon Ranges Regional Sports Precinct, backed by a $14.8 million investment from the Labor Government.
Adjacent to the stadium, a sports oval and pavilion with female friendly change rooms will be built to support the development of local football and cricket.
The project is expected to create 68 full-time jobs during construction, and another 23 jobs once fully operational.
Feasibility studies have shown a growing need for new courts and sporting fields in the area with more families moving into New Gisborne and surrounding suburbs.
The Government’s investment in the precinct includes $11.6 million from the Local Sports Grants initiative and $3.2 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund, with Macedon Ranges Shire Council contributing more than $10 million and the AFL $100,000. The Albanese Government has also committed $15 million towards the project.
Investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, and fast-tracking community recovery by improving the health, wellbeing, and social outcomes for Victorian communities.
