The Andrews Labor Government will redevelop the crumbling Ballarat Station precinct to transform the historic heart of the city and create around 140 local jobs.
Premier Daniel Andrews joined Minister for Regional Development, Jaala Pulford, to discuss the $25 million plan to revive the precinct and secure its future.
Mr Andrews announced that Regional Development Victoria will immediately commence planning and governance arrangements so the redevelopment can begin as soon as possible.
Redevelopment works will clear the whole site, refurbish the asbestos-riddled goods shed and pave the way for a 4 star hotel and convention centre.
The project will create around 140 local jobs and generate up to $38 million in further private sector investment for the hotel and conference complex, bringing more business to Ballarat’s doorstep.
Funding for the project will come from the Labor Government’s Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund, a $500 million plan to support major projects in our regions and create the jobs and industries of the future.
