New Leadership To Oversee Victoria’s Integrity System

15 November 2017

A key appointment to Victoria’s integrity oversight body has been announced, with a new Inspector to lead the Victorian Inspectorate for the next five years.

The Special Minister of State Gavin Jennings today announced the appointment of Mr Eamonn Moran PSM QC to lead the Victorian Inspectorate, overseeing Victoria’s integrity system, commencing on 1 January 2018.

As Inspector, Mr Moran QC will provide crucial oversight of Victoria’s integrity bodies, including the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission, the Victorian Auditor General’s Office, the Victorian Ombudsman, the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner, and the Chief Examiner.

As a former Chief Parliamentary Counsel in Victoria from 1999 to 2008, alongside other senior public sector roles held both here and overseas, Mr Moran QC brings extensive strategy and leadership experience in these fields and has strong knowledge of the legal environment in which public sector oversight and integrity bodies operate.

Expanding on his law degrees gained in Northern Ireland during the 1970s, Mr Moran QC completed his Master of Laws at Melbourne University in 1981, and was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in Victoria in 1998.

Since July 2012 Mr Moran QC has been practising as a barrister specialising in public and administrative law.

Mr Moran QC received the Public Service Medal in 2005 for his dedication over many years to the public service.

The Inspectorate operates independently of government and reports directly to Parliament.
