New Grants Open To Support Victoria’s Multicultural Communities

15 March 2016

The Andrews Labor Government will invest more than $8 million to strengthen multicultural communities and organisations across Victoria.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Robin Scott today announced the opening of two new multicultural grant programs, the Capacity Building and Participation Program and the Community Harmony Program.

The Labor Government will allocate a minimum of $6.2 million towards the Capacity Building and Participation Program that will encourage greater participation and inclusiveness within our culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

It will create opportunities through small grassroots activities for multicultural communities, young people, women, seniors, refugees and asylum seekers to come together and connect.

The Program will provide much needed support to small ethno-specific organisations, seniors clubs and community language schools by encouraging activities that build an understanding of gender equity and family violence prevention within multicultural communities.

The Community Harmony Program will promote partnerships and initiatives that address the root causes of racial, ethnic and religious intolerance. A minimum of $2.1 million will be injected into this program.

Two more multicultural grant programs for 2016-17 will open Friday 18 March - the Multicultural Festivals and Events Program and the Community Infrastructure and Cultural Precincts Program.
