New Designs For Altona Pier

16 May 2022

The Andrews Labor Government is transforming one of the most popular piers in Melbourne’s west, with new designs of the redeveloped Altona Pier ready for display.

Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne released the new schematic designs for the Altona Pier, which have been informed by strong community interest in a modern y-shaped head design.

The new pier design features improved access and safety, a modern pier head with a large, functional community space, multiple vantage points and better access for people exercising or fishing at Altona Beach.

The final detailed design will be completed mid-2022 with construction due to start later in the year.

Funded through the Labor Government’s $24 million Piers and Jetties Stimulus Package, the project will revitalise the pier precinct, improve facilities and support the local economy.

Work to several piers around Port Phillip Bay are also underway at Rye, Portarlington and St Kilda, where piers are being upgraded or rebuilt so locals and visitors can enjoy them for years to come.
