New Date For Victorian State Budget

21 March 2016

Treasurer Tim Pallas today announced that the 2016-17 Victorian State Budget will be brought forward to Wednesday 27 April, 2016.

This ensures the Victorian Budget remains one week before the Federal Budget, which is now being handed down on 3 May.

This provides certainty to Victorians and protects the integrity of the State budget process, as well as providing the community with a clear opportunity to assess its contents.

The Victorian Legislative Assembly will sit on 27 April, with the budget reply to take place in the following sitting week on a day to be determined in consultation with the Victorian Opposition.

The Victorian Legislative Council will sit in line with its current sitting schedule.

Quotes attributable to Treasurer Tim Pallas

“This budget is vital for our state and it’s important that Victorians have sufficient time to scrutinise it and properly consider what it means for them.”

“We have brought the budget forward to provide certainty for Victoria and ensure we are not caught up in the chaos and dysfunction of the Federal Government.”
