New Community Facilities For Point Cook

10 October 2017

Young people in Point Cook will soon benefit from a new multi-purpose Scouts and Community Centre, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Altona Jill Hennessy today visited Carranballac P-9 College Boardwalk Campus in Point Cook to announce the $1.375 million investment as part of the $50 million Shared Facilities Fund.

The Point Cook Scout Group, which contributed $300,000 to total project costs, will share the new Scouts and Community Centre.

The will enable the Scouts and the College to expand their already busy activities and partnership programs.

The Point Cook Scouts currently has 140 members and a track record of attracting young people from a diverse array of backgrounds.

The new hall will be available for school and community use. Primarily it will be used as a Scouts facility on weeknights and on weekends, and as a classroom and activity space for students during school hours.

The hall will also host an outside school hours care program before and after school, and be available for hire for local community and council programs such as yoga classes or meetings.

It has an operable wall that allows it to be split into two rooms, as well as meeting rooms and amenities.

The Labor Government’s Shared Facilities Fund supports schools, local councils and other institutions to develop facilities that will increase access to local services and participation by the community.

Scouts Victoria will undertake the building works in consultation with the Victorian Department of Education and Training and Carranballac P-9 College.
