New Appointment To The County Court

Attorney-General Martin Pakula today announced the appointment of Sara Hinchey to the County Court, filling a vacancy created by the recent retirement of Judge John Bowman.

Ms Hinchey brings more than 19 years of legal experience as a trial and appellate barrister to the role, having specialised in commercial litigation, insurance, professional negligence and white-collar crime.

She was involved in the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and the 2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission.

She has appeared in the higher courts in Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory, as well as in the Federal Court and the High Court of Australia.

Ms Hinchey served on the Victorian Bar Council from 1998 to 2010, including as a member of the Executive Committee between 2007 and 2009.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science from Monash University. She began her legal career as a solicitor at Purves Clarke Richards, now known as Gadens.
