Moyston Community Hall Officially Opened

08 September 2017

The 103-year-old Moyston Hall has undergone an impressive makeover thanks to a $330,000 grant from the Andrews Labor Government that is helping revitalise the town.

Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria Danielle Green joined representatives from Council and members of the community at the official opening in Moyston today.

The upgrade was funded in March 2015 as part of the Labor Government’s $27 million Drought Response Package to stimulate economic activity and boost morale in drought-impacted communities of north west Victoria.

At the foot of the Grampians, Moyston has endured unseasonably dry conditions over a number of years and was also hit by bushfires in 2015, which directly affected 90 local properties.

The upgrade of Moyston Hall included:

  • construction of a new, accessibility-compliant front access ramp
  • a new modern façade while keeping the heritage of the building intact
  • accessible toilets
  • kitchen improvements,
  • installation of a platform lift for stage access
  • interior painting.

With the upgrades complete, Moyston Hall will once again be a busy hub for community events including dances, touring bands, art shows, weddings, social functions, school concerts, dinners, and fitness sessions.

The project was delivered by Ararat City Council with great support from the Moyston Hall Committee and Moyston community.

The installation of the platform lift has made the hall more accessible for people of all abilities, meaning everyone in Moyston will be able to share in the benefits of the upgraded facility.

The modernised and expanded facilities at Moyston better suit the community’s needs and are suitable for a greater range of activities, which has ensured the ongoing viability of Moyston Hall.
