More Victorian students are choosing to study engineering, with Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre’s (VTAC) main round university and TAFE offers showing a 14.6 per cent increase in engineering offers compared to 2014.
Congratulating all Victorians who received a main round offer today, Minister for Training and Skills, Steve Herbert said the engineering sector was a key driver of economic growth.
Engineering skills are in strong demand by the six high-growth sectors of the economy identified in the Andrews Labor Government’s Back to Work plan.
VTAC’s figures show 57,943 university applicants have received an offer to date. Students who did not receive an offer today can wait until the next round of VTAC offers are made on February 5.
Students can also speak with their local TAFE about the options available to them, including courses not listed with VTAC and pathways from TAFE courses into some university degrees.
Mr Herbert reminded students there are many paths to a great career, including university, TAFE, apprenticeships and traineeships.
The Labor Government’s $320 million TAFE Rescue Fund is rebuilding our TAFE system after the previous Liberal Government’s cuts brought the sector to its knees.
The Labor Government will invest in new facilities, re-open campuses and increase pathway opportunities to better meet the training needs of the community.
