More Support For Bushfire Affected Council

04 March 2016

Treasurer Tim Pallas today announced a $400,000 funding boost to support Colac Otway Shire after the devastating impacts of the Christmas Day bushfires in the Otway Ranges.

The Andrews Labor Government recognises that the recovery effort has come at a cost to Colac Otway Shire with many resources and services being diverted to assist the bushfire recovery effort.

The Labor Government will provide $200,000 to assist with works to revitalise Colac's CBD for locals and visitors, improving general amenity and encouraging more people to stop and support small businesses in regional Victoria.

A further $200,000 will go towards finalising the Colac Otway Central Reserve Redevelopment project, which will give local residents better access to recreational facilities.

The Labor Government is providing this funding so the Council can continue delivering services to communities while also undertaking important bushfire rebuilding efforts.

Both funding announcements will be a shot in the arm of the local economy and provide a boost to local jobs.

In January, the Labor Government announced $850,000 for Colac Otway Shire to provide bushfire recovery workers and for the establishment of a ‘one stop shop’ to simplify and speed up rebuilding.
