More Room To Grow At Hume Recreation Reserve

06 June 2022

The Andrews Labor Government is backing the next generation of soccer stars in Geelong with the completion of a new pavilion at Hume Reserve in Bell Park.

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence joined Member for Lara John Eren over the weekend to officially open the pavilion, thanks to $250,000 from the Labor Government’s World Game Facilities Fund.

The Corio Soccer Club now has two sets of gender-neutral change rooms and amenities as part of the pavilion upgrade, meeting Football Victoria standards.

The new pavilion also includes referee change rooms, a first aid room, social spaces, a kitchen, a meeting room and storage space.

The building provides a more welcoming space at the Corio Soccer Club for players, parents and fans, and is the perfect base for them to grow numbers and hold competitions, with nearby schools also able to access the new pavilion.

From new sports pavilions to pitch lighting, investments like these provide high-quality and accessible facilities that allow Victorians to reap the benefits of sport and active recreation participation.

They are also about creating jobs, stimulating local economies and fast-tracking community recovery by improving the health, wellbeing, and social outcomes for Victorian communities.

The Victorian Budget 2022/23 is providing an additional $88 million to deliver new and improved community sports infrastructure and programs to boost participation in local sports clubs and organisations. This includes continuing the flagship Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, game-changing Female Friendly Facilities Fund and the popular Country Football and Netball Program.

The 2022 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund is now also open for applications with up to $30 million available to develop new or upgrade community sports facilities. Applications close on 12 July 2022.
