More Car Parks For Melbourne’s West

06 October 2022

One of the state’s busiest train stations has received a major car park overhaul, with the Andrews Labor Government delivering 500 new and upgraded spaces in Tarneit – one of the fastest-growing suburbs in Melbourne’s west.

Commuter car parking at Tarneit Station has been bumped up approximately 50 per cent, bringing the total number of car spaces to more than 1,500 spots – one of the largest station car parks on the state’s rail network.

The works are part of the Labor Government’s Car Parks for Commuters program, delivering new and upgraded car parks across the state.

A new bus interchange is also on the way at Tarneit Station, doubling the number of bus bays and allowing more bus services to run more often. Construction is set to begin in late 2022, with the new bus interchange opening to commuters late next year.

The City of Wyndham is one of Australia’s fastest-growing communities and Tarneit Station is the state’s busiest V/Line station outside of Southern Cross, with over 1.24 million commuters using the station in 2019 (pre-Covid).

Major construction is also underway across Melbourne’s booming west to add 400 new and upgraded spaces at Caroline Springs Station and 380 new and upgraded spaces at Wyndham Vale.

These works will more than double car parking capacity at Caroline Springs Station and bump up capacity at Wyndham Vale Station by around 40 per cent.

New bicycle parking facilities, improved lighting and CCTV will also be delivered as part of the project, making it easier and safer to catch the train.

Since 2014, 15,000 new and upgraded parking spaces have been delivered at metropolitan and regional stations across the state, and the Labor Government is on track to deliver a further 6,000 new and upgraded spaces.
