Ministers Praise Family Violence Assistant Commissioner

The Minister for Police, Wade Noonan and the Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence, Fiona Richardson today welcome the appointment of Assistant Commissioner Dean McWhirter as the head of Australia’s first family violence police command.

This new command will dedicate itself to investigating family violence, sexual assault and child abuse where the perpetrator and victim know each other.

Family violence is Victoria’s number one law and order issue and its prevention is an Andrews Labor Government priority.

The Government looks forward to working with Assistant Commissioner McWhirter as part of the Royal Commission into Family Violence.
