Minister Supports Victorian Principals

20 November 2015

Minister for Education James Merlino opened the Australian Principals Federation’s annual general meeting last night where he acknowledged the important role of principals in building the Andrews Labor Government’s Education State.

The Labor Government is committed to supporting and empowering principals as part of the Education State, and is investing $12.1 million over four years for new and expanded leadership development programs.

The Local Leaders Program will empower 200 principals and assistant principals with the leadership skills needed to train and develop up to 1300 high potential teachers in their schools.

The Principal Preparation Program will be expanded from 80 places to 160 places so that aspiring principals have the opportunity to gain experience and guidance under high performing principals.

The Expert Leaders Program will boost collaboration among schools to identify 80 highly capable principals who will engage with schools in their efforts to improve performance.

The Australian Principals Federation represents state primary and secondary school principals and assistant principals across Victoria and Western Australia.
