Minister To Host Bendigo Forum On NDIS

29 October 2015

Bendigo locals are invited to the first of many local forums across Victoria to hear about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) on Wednesday, 4 November, 2015.

Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing Martin Foley is hosting the forum. He will join with Bendigo West MP Maree Edwards, and the National Disability Insurance Agency, to talk about how to work together to prepare for the rollout of the NDIS in the Bendigo area from May 2017.

The NDIS is a national program that will provide a new way of delivering services and support for Australians with permanent and significant disability. The NDIS will build a completely new national disability support system.

It will give people with a disability and their families more choice and control over the services they receive, to help them achieve their goals and live full and active lives.

The Andrews Labor Government recently reached a historic agreement with the Commonwealth, securing the roll-out of the NDIS across Victoria from July 2016.

The forum is being held at the Capital Theatre, 50 View St, Bendigo, on Wednesday, 4 November, 2015, from 10.30am-12.30pm.

Quotes attributed to acting Minister for Mental Health, Jill Hennessy

“The NDIS will mean a fairer system, with 105,000 Victorians receiving support when it is fully rolled out. The Andrews Labor Government is committed to the NDIS because this is about transforming the lives of Victorians with disabilities, their families and carers.”

“This is one of the largest social reforms ever undertaken in Australia. People with disability will have a far wider range of supports to choose from, will have real control over how they are supported, and will be better helped to achieve their own level of independence.”

Quotes attributable to Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan

“The NDIS will be progressively rolled out in Victoria over three years from 1 July 2016, and I am thrilled that Bendigo will be one of the first areas to benefit from the scheme in May 2017.”

Quotes attributable to Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards

“We look forward to hearing the views of the Bendigo community at next week’s Forum so we can make sure that we get the NDIS right in each place it expands to.”
